Both the leaves and the young leaves of chives can be eaten raw or cooked and serve as a flavoring, although they are milder than garlic. The flowers can be eaten raw and are often used as a garnish on salads. Chives are mainly used as a seasoning in soups and stews. The bulbs can also be eaten raw or cooked.
