Fruit can be eaten raw, cooked, or dried for later use. It is sweeter than the A. deliciosa, also known as kiwifruit, with a smooth skin that can be eaten. The fruit contains up to five times more vitamin C than blackcurrants. There are mixed opinions about the taste, as some highly appreciate it while others find it tasteless. Ripe fruits are greenish-yellow or purplish-red in color and about 2 to 3 cm long. They contain some small seeds, which can easily be eaten together with the fruit. The plant produces a lot of sap that can be tapped and consumed in the spring.
